Job Title: Policy and Communications Executive

Salary: £22,000 – £25,000

Location: Home based with some UK travel

Employment Type: Permanent, ideally full-time (37.5 hours per week), but part-time/flexible hours considered (Please make your preference clear upon application. Salary will be pro-rated in line with agreed hours.)

SUMMARY OF ROLE:

As Policy and Communications Executive, you will play a vital role in advocating for heat pump technologies and promoting the goals of the Heat Pump Association. This multifaceted role involves policy research, communications, and outreach efforts. You will collaborate with our team to shape public perception, influence policy development, coordinate members views and provide member updates with the overall intent of accelerating the deployment of heat pumps in the UK.

ABOUT US:

The Heat Pump Association is the UK’s leading authority on the use and benefits of heat pump technology and includes the country’s leading manufacturers of heat pumps, components, and associated equipment. The Association works to support policymakers in the development of effective heat decarbonisation policy and other matters that affect the interests of end users, wider stakeholders, and the industry. In addition, the HPA co-ordinates technical and market research into areas of mutual interest identified by members, the aim of which is to improve market opportunities in the UK through trusted information.

 We are seeking a Policy and Communications Executive to join our dynamic team and support our mission.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Policy Research and Analysis:

  • Monitor current policy developments, government regulations, and industry trends related to heat pumps and coordinate findings into informative briefing materials
  • Conduct research and analysis to identify opportunities and challenges in the heat pump sector and support in the drafting of papers to provide solutions.
  • Assist in the development of policy recommendations and proposals to promote heat pump adoption through responding to Government consultations
  • Build and manage relationships with members and industry stakeholder from a range of organisations across the sector

 Communications:

  • Support external communications through drafting and editing press releases, articles, and content for the Heat Pump Association’s website and social media platforms.
  • Assist in the management and updates of the association’s website, ensuring that it is informative and up-to-date.
  • Assist in planning and executing communication strategies to increase the visibility of heat pump technologies and the HPA
  • Monitor media coverage and public discourse related to heat pumps and respond to inquiries.
  • Support with internal communications with our member through the creation of a fortnightly update email summary.

Advocacy and Outreach:

  • Collaborate with government agencies, industry stakeholders, and advocacy groups to promote heat pumps.
  • Represent the Heat Pump Association at conferences, meetings, and industry events.
  • Engage with members and partners to drive membership and support for the association’s initiatives.

General Association Support:

  • Assist with membership meeting tasks such as scheduling meetings, maintaining contact lists, and managing documents.
  • Support senior team members in various ad-hoc tasks related to policy and communications.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or relevant experience (e.g., Environmental Policy, Communications, Politics, Public Relations, Marketing or a similar discipline).
  • An excellent communicator: Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent research and analytical abilities.
  • An understanding of the political workings and policy landscape in the UK.
  • A level of familiarity with energy policy, sustainability, and heat pump technologies is a plus.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office software and content management systems. (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint essential)
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and a team player.
  • Excellent organisational and multitasking skills.
